I acquired an interest in cooking on the first of many trips to India 10 years ago. While living and working in an urban clinic, I learned to cook healthy and simple vegetarian dishes from local women in the community. The clinic treated patients through an integration of western medicine and Ayurveda; I was immersed in knowledge about the healing properties of spices and herbs. My Moroccan family's cooking traditions are also very important to me and over time I have developed a passion for cooking of all kinds, with a particular focus on Indian, Middle Eastern and Asian cuisines.
After moving to the UK from Canada in 2011 I worked for several years in the charity and community sector. In 2014 I began teaching vegetarian cooking workshops in Chapel Allerton, Leeds and I completed my qualifications in Nutritional Consulting, Food Safety Management and even gourmet cheese retail training! I have had the privilege of eating delicious food in wonderfully different parts the world--from Iowa to Amritsar! My passion for creating and sharing recipes and cooking with others keeps growing. I love combining various spices and flavours with fresh and local produce.
Although I emphasise a whole foods and largely plant-based diet, I also believe that meat, fish and dairy are important to integrate into a balanced nutritional lifestyle. My goal is to guide individuals and families towards balanced and healthier eating by understanding and enjoying the benefits of learning to cook with fresh and simple ingredients.
I have recently moved back to Canada after almost 7 years outside of the country and am living in Toronto. I'm extremely inspired by the diverse food vibes in this city and I am hoping to collaborate with others who value small projects and are excited about food, wellness and creativity.
